Tucked away in a semi-remote area of West Virginia is a small town called Harpers Ferry. And tucked away in this small town is the most pleasant, heavenly oasis known as Hapua at Quarry Run. I feel like I lost you somewhere around “semi-remote”, but stick with me. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. Once you make it to the main house at Hapua you will be greeted by a perfectly lush and manicured lawn that extends into an outdoor dining area with seating for 14. And right past that dining table, that has probably witnessed some of the best family stories, is a most welcomed sight… the quarry itself. A 12-acre body of natural spring water surrounded by sediment rock on most of its edge with a private, white sand beach at one end. The quarry is about `120′ feet deep in its deepest part with crystal clear waters that allow you to see 25′ into the water on a clear day.

The beach is flanked by a deck on one side (the hub for your future private fireworks display) and a beachside cabana on the other. Lounge in the egg chair, read a book on the sofa or, if you are feeling adventurous, grab a kayak, canoe or paddle board and enjoy the quarry’s calm waters. Feeling slightly more adventurous? There are two cliffs that you can choose to free fall into the crisp waters. Ok, was that a bit too adventurous for you? How about a floating dining table for four that can host an intimate, aquatic dinner.

Water isn’t your thing? That’s cool. I get it. Luckily for you, the 24-acre property boasts a fitness center, two fire pits perfect for making s’mores, a circular-shaped seating area, 3-D chess, large “Jenga” blocks and a dining space under a 120-year old concrete quarry hopper. Don’t worry, I had to Google it too.

All of these things to do and we haven’t event stepped foot inside of the 2,000 square foot guest house. The interior of this guest house matches the spectacular hospitality of the exterior. It has 3-bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, a brand new kitchen with stainless steal appliances, stone countertops, the most amazing hot water (compliments of the geo-thermal activity happening down below), a dining table for 10 and comfortable, lounge seating for about 12 people. The wifi is strong, the Netflix and Hulu accounts are logged in and ready for viewing and the sitting area comes with a fold out desk and two lounge chairs that fold out to twin beds (for this afternoon naps).

The most amazing thing of this secluded getaway is just that. It is secluded. Arguably, the best kept secret in West Virginia. It is a peaceful and quiet escape without the fuss of crowds and the pinging of new emails coming through. I am not the most outdoorsy person. If you know me, then you know that is a very accurate statement. But something about this place really forces you to embrace nature. You can’t help but want to be present… in the now.

And now is exactly where I want to be.

Thank you, Hapua at Quarry Run for the most memorable time.
